Current Position: 

Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Genoa

 

Scientific Activity: 

Currently I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Genoa in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (DICCA). I received my Ph.D. from the Doctoral School of Earth Science and Fluid Mechanics at the University of Trieste, Italy. My area of research focus is related to the study of the dispersion processes owing to turbulent flows generated by the simultaneous action of wind, tides and gravity waves in the coastal environment. RESEARCH INTERESTS : Lagrangian data assimilation and variational analysis; Numerical modelling of ocean circulation; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Turbulence modelling of environmental flows; Oil spill tracking and modelling; Ocean pollution modelling; Experimental fluid mechanics; Lagrangian Coherent Structures and mixing processes.

Background: 

As a Ph.D. student at the Italian National Institute of Oceanography (Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale OGS) and the University of Trieste with Prof. Alessandro Crise (Director of Oceanography Department, OGS) and Prof. Pierre M. Poulain (Head, Remote Sensing Group, OGS) I have simulated and studied passive tracer dispersion by statistical properties of the currents in the Adriatic Sea from velocity data produced by numerical model outputs (MIT general circulation model) and real drifter data set.
