Current Position: 

PhD Student

Scientific Activity: 

The PhD project is jointly supervised by Prof. Guadagnini and Prof. Fiorotto. It focuses on the study of flow and transport in heterogeneous porous media. The first part of the work is aimed at investigating scaling of hydraulic parameters characterizing a porous medium by means of a multi-scale analysis inspired by the recognition that observed multiscale behaviors of several subsurface fluid flow variables have been found to be mutually consistent with a view of (log)permeability as a statistically isotropic or anisotropic self-affine random field. The analysis will take advantage of numerical simulations of pore-scale flow dynamics on porous media reconstructed from three-dimensional tomographic images of real systems and will be performed in the framework of the computational fluid model EULAG associated with the Immersed Boundary Method to mimic the presence of solid structures and internal boundaries. This part of the work will be performed in collaboration with Prof. C. Larrabee Winter, at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona
