Baroclinic Dynamics of Adriatic-Ionian System
Curriculum, Annual Report, Thesis:
Current Position:

Ph.D. Student in Environmental and Industrial Fluid Mechanics, University of Trieste.

Scientific Activity:

Ph.d project : Baroclinic Dynamics of Adriatic-Ionian System -Supervisor : Dr. Alessandro Crise – OGS (http://www.ogs.trieste.it)-Co-supervisor: Dr.Riccardo Farneti-ICTP (http://www.ictp.it)-Tutor : Dr. Filippo Giorgi – ICTP (http://www.ictp.it)-This project has the final purpose to estimate the response of the Adriatic-Ionian System to remote forcings trough an estimation of their effects on the vorticity and energy budget

Background:

-Member of Italian Geophysical Association (AGI)(member of supervisor committee) -Member of Italian Meteorological society (SMI) • B.sc. in Sciences and Tecnologies –obtained on 30/10/2007 at the University of Salento Final mark: “110/110 cum laude” Graduation thesis in Physical Oceanography : “Individuation of tendencies and variability of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the Mediterrean Sea “– thesis advisor : prof. Piero Lionello For my Bachelor degree (three-year degree) thesis I have been working for six months full-time in the research group led by Piero Lionello , professor of the department of Sciences of the Materials at the "Universita' degli Studi" of Salento and chairman of Medclivar project (www.medclivar.eu) . In this thesis we investigated , using fortran codes , trends and variability of Sea Surface Temperature in the Mediterrean sea and the influences of climate forcings and oscillations (as NAO and ENSO) on them. Keywords: SST, variability, trends, climate oscillations, radiative forcings. • M.sc. in sciences obtained on 29/10/2009 at the University of Salento Final grade :”110/110 cum laude” (with special mention) Thesis work in Physical Oceanography:” Link between cyclones and precipitation in the Mediterrean region in winter” - thesis advisor : prof. Piero Lionello For my master thesis work, starting from February 2009 until October 2009, I have been working full-time in the research group led by Piero Lionello , professor of the department of Sciences of the Materials at the "Universita' degli Studi" of Salento and chairman of Medlclivar project (www.medclivar.eu) . My work is focused on writing some fortran codes that will process the data of ERA-40 and ECA-KNMI datasets with the final purpose to analyze the link between precipitation and cyclone activity in the Mediterrean region Keywords: cyclone, precipitation, variability,50th and 90th percentile, tendency, trajectories, density Stage at CNR-ISAC (National Counsil of Research- Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences- Lecce) “Acquisition of fundamental tecniques to acquire, visualize and treat meteorology and oceanography data (in particular SST,Sea Surface Temperature data) from September 2005 to December 2005 University of Salento- Stage at Departiment of Sciences of Materials - Climatology Laboratory-“Mapping, visualization and statistical tests on the variables that characterized cyclones”- from May 2009 to September 2009-supervisor: prof .Piero Lionello University of Salento-Department of Sciences of Materials-“Characteristics of Cyclones producing severe precipitation at Mediterrean coast”- from January 2010 to August 2010- University of Salento-Department of Sciences of Materials-“Impacts of climate changes at regional scales in the Apulia region-south Italy”- from June 2010 to September 2010- Free University of Berlin– Institute for Meteorology-November 2010-January 2011-Institute for Meteorology-supervisor: prof.Uwe Ulbrich-The final purpose of my visit at institute of Meteorology of Free University of Berlin is :”Compare the existing algorithm for cyclone tracking employed at Freie Universitaet in Berlin and at University of Salento and to produce a climatology and statistics of cyclones in the Mediterranean region” University of Salento-Department of Sciences of Materials-“Future climate changes at regional scales in the Apulia region-south Italy”- from February 2011 to June 2011 University of Salento-Department of Sciences of Materials-“Analysis of the effects of inclusion of open depression in identification schemes “ from June 2011 to now- The results of this work have been presented to international and is becoming part of an incoming publication within the framework of project IMILAST. • “2nd CLIM-RUN School: Building Two-way Communication: A Week of Climate Services", Organizer(s): Erika Coppola, ICTP, Trieste, Paolo Ruti, ENEa,Italy -Trieste - Italy, 2-6 December 2013 • “2nd VALUE training school: Statistical and Dynamical Downscaling of Extreme Events", Organizer(s): Erika Coppola, ICTP, Trieste, D.Mauran , GEOMAR,Germany, Italy -Trieste - Italy, 21-31 October 2013 • “Advanced school on data assimilation”.
