Scientific Activity: 

A Large-Eddy simulation tool for Environmental and Industrial processes. A large scale Large eddy-simulation tool will be developed for the analysis of complex problems arising in Industrial as well as in environmental fluid mechanics. The tool is based on a small scale LES code, developed by Prof. Armenio in the past. The scope of the research project is to improve this tool with special emphasis to the following tasks: development of a complex geometry module based on the immersed boundary technology. Development of wall functions for separated three-dimensional flows to be placed over the solid boundaries (including the immersed ones). The mathematical model also includes the possibility to treat an active scalar (temperature and/or concentration). The mathematical model will be applied to the study of two complex physical problems, respectively in the field of environmental and industrial fluid mechanics.
